FSSAI registration or food license is needed when you are involved into the trade or business of food industry. It can be related to manufacturing or processing or packaging or preparing or distributing or just storage of food and food products. The FSSAI License is given by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), on the behalf of Ministry of Family Health & Welfare, Government of India.
All kinds of Food Business Operators (FBO) are supposed to get a FSSAI license. On the other hand, small or Petty Food Manufacturer or small scale dealers or manufacturers or local vendors just have to get an FSSAI registration. A petty food business operator whose Annual turnover is up to ₹12 lakh and Production capacity is up to 100kg per day shall get an FSSAI registration. A dealer whose Annual turnover is above ₹12 lakh and below ₹20 crore shall get an FSSAI state license. Those having turnover is above ₹20 crore shall get an FSSAI central license.
