The Tervuren Belgian Shepherd, named for the town of Tervuren, was bred as a herding and war dog but is currently mostly used as a companion dog. It is very protective and will instinctively herd small children. They do well as a family pet in a home with older children. They are often used as guard or police dogs as they can have an aggressive side. They do well as long as they are well trained as a puppy. If not they can become shy or aggressive.
