A Japanese polytheistic (believing in multiple Gods) religion, Shintoism, does not truly believe in "Gods" but rather in Spirits. This religion is for explaining the world but rather a way of living and devoting in order to be in touch with the great spirits. It is a very local religion, meaning that the people of this religion aren't concerned with Shintoism as a whole but rather just with their local shrine. Because it is a 'religion' that is more ritual than belief it has yet to be considered a religion by the Japanese people but rather just a part of their life.
