Roan Mountain, North Carolina/Tennessee


Roan Mountain, elevation 6,286 feet, is a true gem of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The Highlands is a 12 mile ridge line of Grassy and Health Balds, It is the longest in the world. Roan Mountain are the peaks of Roan High Knob and Roan High Bluff; with a 1.5 mile connecting ridge between the two peaks.The Catawba Rhododendron Gardens are just south of Carver's Gap and cover 600 acres in a climate of a Canadian Temperate zone. They comprise the largest display of blooming rhododendron found anywhere in the world today. Hiking, camping, horseback riding, and picnicking are just a few of the things to do in the area.
