The resort town of the Roman Empire, Pompeii disappeared from the ancient Empire within a day under clouds of smoke, falling ash, and volcanic debris. Not only was the structure of the town frozen in time but so where the people in their attempts to escape and survive. Nearly 1700 years after the explosion of Mount Vesuvius in 79 BC it was rediscovered by the King of Naples and would  become one of the greatest discoveries of all time.
