Dmitry Rybolovlev: Why he is famous for?

The famous Russian billionaire, Dmitry Rybolovlev is now officially charged in a controversial investigation. The current controversies have been formed between this Russian art collector and his former advisor and another famous art dealer Yves Bouvier who was the previous owner of numerous freeports. The incident happened when Bouvier facilitated art broker sales of an approximated $2 billion to Rybolovlev. Some favorite creations by Modigliani, Picasso, even the famous painting of Salvator Mundi created by Leonardo da Vinci which later went at the Christie’s last fall auction for an approximated $450 million to re-sell. Bouvier is also known by “The Bouvier Affair” – a group of controversial fraud cases.

A basic introduction of Dmitry Rybolovlev:

He is basically an investor and a businessman. Later he developed his interest as the famous art collector. He owned the potash producer “Uralkali”. In 2011, he became the President of “AS Monaco” – a football club of Monaco. He became a billionaire within a very short period of time. In 2018, Rybolovlev grabbed the 242nd place on the “Forbes’s list of billionaires” when he earned a net worth of $6.8 billion. Though Rybolovlev has started to become known as one amongst the most controversial and high-profile alleged victims from 2015. 

Let’s find out the allegations against Rybolovlev:

Murder allegations and judgment: In the year of 1995, Dmitry Rybolovlev has moved to Geneva, Switzerland along with his family to keep them away from the domestic chaos of Soviet Union’s demise at that time. In the month of May of 1996, Rybolovlev was accused of a murder case of his rival businessman named Evgeny Panteleymonov. It was said that he plotted the murder against the businessman and then was arrested consequently. He had to spend 11 months in the jail and then due to lack of evidence, he was fully acquitted at trial. In 1997, Rybolovlev was again acquitted by the court at three levels and the “Presidium of the Supreme Court” was also included there. 

Pollution of Kama River: In 2012, Green Patrol – an environmental NGO of Russia has listed Uralkali and stated that it is one of the 100 most polluters in Russia on the basis of collected information during the past years. In 2010, this NGO organized an expedition. Rybolovlev has revealed then that Uralkali’s sinks contain a minimum of at least 16 harmful components including ammonium and zinc also. He also revealed that Uralkali has exceeded the maximum permitted level by approximately q1850 times. According to the Green Patrol NGO, Uralkali has failed to disclose the entire list of harmful components that they used to eject straight to the river Kama and left the river water very polluted.

Panama Papers Scandal: In 2016, Rybolovlev was alleged by ICIJ – the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists that he used a company to hide art from Elena – his former wife during their divorce processing and the company was registered in the Virgin Islands. This was described as the “textbook example when rich fellows try to protect their wealth in their marital breakup case. Later on, the family trust has disclosed publicly that the companies and the owners of the artworks have published before the publishing of the Panama Papers. 

Liberation of Georgi Bedjamov: In March 2016, the President of the Federation of Bobsleigh and Skeleton of Russia and the past co-owner of Vneshprombank was arrested in Monaco after issuing an international arrest warrant on charges of the fake bankruptcy and misuse and the warrant was issued by the Russian authorities. Dmitry Rybolovlev was accused to help Bedjamov escape Russian authorities. Rybolovlev has denied these charges in a newspaper interview in 2016.

Football Leaks scandal: In December 2016, it was revealed that Rybolovlev and Jorge Mendes – a football agent had established a secret system to purchase the shares of the players. He used to manipulate his own players’ price through third-party ownership.
