Diamond Shoals Light Tower North Carolina

Diamond Shoals light tower was built because the land based lighthouses did not reach far enough to warn ships at the edge of Diamond Shoals. Hurricane Fran damaged the tower so badly it was only reachable by helicopter so it was decommissioned and left to the ravages of nature. In 2012 a Michigan business executive purchased the tower in the hopes to restore the tower and turn it into a research, development and product-testing facility off the Outer Banks.
