One of the most notorious concentration camps of the Second World War, Auschwitz was originally constructed as a labor force camp for those being oppressed by the Nazi regime. Only later did it gain Birkenau which was the the death camp section. Auschwitz was built in 1940 and didn't close until 1944 as the Germans began to lose the war. A true place of horror where countless died, worked, and suffered under the horrible experiments of Mengele, the "Angel of Death".
